Billie Eilish Looks Back at the Fame She's Amassed in the Past Year

Billie Eilish is one of the biggest names in alternative pop. Last year, as her success was beginning to rise, the singer sat down with Vanity Fair for a video interview where she talked about her number of Instagram followers; her famous friends; how often she gets recognized, and her biggest shows. A year later, she sat down for the same interview — and the now 16-year-old has come a long way in the past 365 days.

Her Instagram followers went from around 250,000 to 6.3 million, she's befriended dozens of celebrities, and she's performed in front of huge festival crowds. But while she looked back on what she had said in 2017, Eilish was astonished.

"I'm kinda jealous of Billie a year ago," she confessed. "I'm really not about to f**king pity myself for people recognizing who I am — I'm really grateful for it — but I would like to go to, I don't know, anywhere, and not be always recognized."

She continued on the serious note, divulging about getting mistreated for a long time and beginning to know her self-worth. "It's taken a minute, and I don't think I'm there yet, but I'm getting there," she explained.

When asked about the current state of the music industry, the teenager dropped another truth bomb: "We're all sad as hell. All these artists, we're sad as s**t, dude," she said. "Everybody I know that's an artist, we are sad motherf**kers. That's the way it is."
